Strategic context

The site is situated to the north of South Woodham Ferrers, which was developed from the mid 1970’s onwards as a riverside country town by Essex County Council. Today it is the second largest town in the Borough with a population of over 16,000 people. It is located approximately 17 km to the south-east of the city itself. The River Crouch, to the south of the town, is a key element of the town’s setting.
